Department of Veterans Affairs Compensation Backpay?

by admin on July 8, 2010

I got out of the military in February, and have a compensation with the VA pending. My question is "will the VA pay back pay for my disability from the date of injury, discharge date, or just pay from the date disability is granted?" Does the VA take like a year to finish researching your claim, and then screw you out of the money you could have been getting if they were expedient?

You will receive compensation from the date you filed your claim. The claims process is taking about a year to complete. Last I heard there was a backlog of over 700,000 claims waiting to be processed. Have you had your Compentaion and Pension medical exam yet? You didn’t say how you filed your claim, i.e. You filled out the papers or you had a Veterans Representative did it. If you file though a Vet Rep, good. If you did it yourself, here’s what you do.

First thing monday morning, contact the any one of the following:
DAV National Service regional office. (first link)
DAV State Service office (usually located at the VA hospital. second link)
or call your county government office and ask for the Veterans representative.

This is an extremely frustrating time for you, believe me,you’re not the first to go though this.Don’t knuckle under. If you need some help email me and I see what I can do. Stay away from the booze and drugs, they don’t help, I mean they REALLY DO NOT HELP! If you find yourself going down hill fast please do one of these. Call this number 1-800-273-TALK (8255) and there will be someone there to talk to, or get your self to the nearest hospital ER and tell them you are Veteran and that you need help right now!
Like we use to say, "Hurry up and wait".

We have been waiting on my husbands for over a year. They "lost" his package more times than I can count. They have told me that they back pay to the date that you file for it.
