Worker's Compensation?

I have had a lower back injury on the job and went to the company’s doctor. I was not taken off work but placed on restrictions. The company has filed a claim with Worker’s Compensation. How does this work? Will this be on my work history if I went and got another job?

If the light duty becomes a permant new position, the record of the new position will be on your work history.

This is normally typical procedures by the company to file the work comp claim. Which is good, many companies try to sweep it under the rug.

If your placed on light duty restrictions it can go two ways. If your company is able to accommodate for your restrictions than you should be able to work within your restrictions. Such as you can’t stand up for more than 10 mins at a time, so the company will stick you behind a desk and answer phone calls or read the company manual.

If your company is UNABLE to accommodate for the work restrictions than you will be placed on temporary total disability (TTD), which pays out bi-weekly. The rate is usually 66% of your average weekly wage. You will be on TTD until your doctor releases you back to work and/or your company will accommodate for your restrictions.

Your injuries should be taken care of a doctor, it’s normal for the insurance company to send you to a third party doctor called an Independent medical exam (IME). There the IME doctor will explain what treatment should be done, of course your doctor doesn’t have to agree with the findings.

As for your claim being on work history, it’s possible, it depends on the company. If your job changes due to the injury than it’s likely to be on record for the reason why it was created.
